xp sp3 windows update service wont start

Hello,
I have been researching and trying for 3 straight days to receive windows updates. I noticed I wasnt getting the popup on the bottom of my screen anymore telling me there were updates. So I went to the windows update page to do it manually. When I got to the point of choosing Express or custom I chose custom. Everytime it comes back with the error of the website encoutered a problem and cannot display the page. I checked my services and Automatic updates was stopped. I then clicked to start the service and it came back with the error code 2 and said something regarding the file not being found in specified path. After alot of research and looking at the path it stated within services I noticed the path had the word "fystemroot" instead of "systemroot". When i changed ALL the directories within the registry entitled "fystemroot" it corrected that issue however I had a new one. Now when I try to start the service I get the error 126 - the specified module could not be found. Ive since reinstalled service pack 3 but that did not help.
Can someone PLEASE help me with this... I give up on researching the fix.. Im down to straight up asking for help.

The specific cause has to do with a orphaned DLL that exists on the machine, but does not have a correctly correlated registry entry.You can fix this problem by installing the Windows Update Agent
