    IBM Thinkpad T20 Error 0271

I'm having IBM Thinkpad T20 laptop on which i had installed Windows Xp as my operating system. Whenever I power-up my IBM Thinkpad T20 laptop, the following error occurs: 0271 - Check Date and Time Settings on your system. Can any body tell me that how can i get rid of error 0271 on ibm thinkpad? Does any body knows about it? Kindly provide me the correct solution for the above issue.

You can change the date and time in your BIOS settings. Unfortunately this could also mean a dead CMOS battery. However, before installing any OS on them, I always apply the latest Bios updates, install the OS, then download and install ALL of the appropriate driver updates from IBM, then apply any MS pacthes. Try to check your hardware maintenance manual for T20 for the location of the CMOS battery.

If your getting a Fan error on IBM laptops, you need to replace the CPU fan. It may still be working, but not at the speed of which it should. The problem is most likely the CMOS or "backup" battery. Basically an onboard button battery that keep BIOS settings like date/time. It is pretty easy to access and meant for easy replacement.

Go to the IBM support site and download the hardware service manual for your thinkpad. The instructions to reset the cmos password should be in it. Try pressing F12 on boot to see if the machine will allow you to boot from CD.
