Windows XP will not load without XP CD in drive

    Hello everyone

My computer gives me a "disk boot error" on both our Hard drives when the XP home cd is absent on the cd drive. I have XP Pro on one drive and XP home on the other and it give the option to dual boot, but only if the XP Home cd is in the drive and in this scenario no need to hit enter to "boot from cd", it just goes to the dual boot screen. Ive have no idea how to deal with this situation.if any one tell some suggestions to get rid of this it will be wonderful...

    thanks guys for reading me..!!

Boot from the orginal Windows XP cd and get in to the recovery console.Log into your windows installation by following the prompts on the screen.

    * Type chkdsk /p and hit enter in order to fix any possible partition errors.

    * Type fixmbr, hit enter and tell yes.

    * Type fixboot, hit enter and tell it yes again.

    * Type bootcfg /list and confirm that Windows XP is listed here, if not type bootcfg /rebuild and append the windows installation when it asks. It will prompt you for a name, type Windows XP and press enter through the other prompts.

    restart to see any changes

My guess is that corruption of your bootloader.some times the procedure below resolve the issue first of all boot to windows xp cd and select to repair windows installation.this will invite the recovery console choose the installation that is your primary master hdd from here, this is the one with your boot.ini file .and while you are in command prompt>fixboot hit enter "it may ask if you want to rewrite the bootsector.allow it now back at the command prompt run fixmbr hit enter and allow to rewrite the bootsector again.reboot computer without cd in drive

Very likely a timing problem. Try a different HD data cable.Do you have another harddrive to test and see if is just that harddrive that is the trouble maker. If you can load winxp on another harddrive try do so and then put the shady drive in as a slave and try to see if you can see files from the other drive.after this transfer the files from the shady drive to the other harddrive that works on boot.
