Windows xp hangs on mup.sys

Hi,
I have windows XP running on my dell laptop. When i try to install any software, it forcibly shutdown and restart after some time. It says mup.sys error after the blue bar loading screen. It also comes in safe mode. Can anyone help?

Try to change computer type in Control panel from 'Uniprocessor ACPI' to 'Advanced Configuration and Power Interface'. Remove or change any hardwre like mouse or keyboard which is used for booting the system and sometime it fails to work accordingly. After attaching all the harware back make the changes in control panel for computer type.

Download and install the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility. You can try to reset the BIOS system at the jumper or removing battery for a minute. When it got to Mup.sys, it seems to have stopped responding. Try to start in safe mode with new bios settings.

It causes because of faulty hardware. Test your hard drive and RAM. Reboot your system with windows XP cd and boot into the recovery console. There you need to replace the corrupted file. Also try repair option from recovery cd. Try system restore when the problem occurred.
