First see your motherboard supports booting from a USB device in your bios , under the start up order. Take the windows cd to the drive and startup with usb in the boot order before hdd . If it doesn't work, you have to create boot disk and dos usb driver to load it the 16 bit installer it will be located in the i386 folder on the drive

Get the solution.rar file unzip the file on drive C, you need a folder named C:\Dos insert your pen drive, locate the folder C:\Dos and run HpUSBformat.exe file in order to auto detect the pen drive
    - now the pendrive with bootable dos on it is ready.Copy all other files from C:/Dos to your pendrive. your pendrive should look like that
insert Windows Xp cd copy all files from CD to pendrive.
Boot your laptop with pendrive Type sys d: and hit enter
    - if you see system transferred - you have luck, FAT32 filesystem on drive C:, you will not lose your data
now reboot machine without pen drive type cd i386 and hit enter also type winnt press enter

    good luck......
