Can't partition a hard drive in Vista Home Addition

    Hi All,

I tried to do partition in my primary drive. After I shrink volume, I
get 20gb of unallocated space. But when I start new simple volume
wizard until the final step, I was prompted with error message that "
the operation you selected will convert basic disk to dynamic disk".
When I select yes, operation can not be performed. I cannot format the
drive and thus cannot use the unallocated space. Can anyone suggest to
me how to do partition in windows vista home premium? This is driving me nuts because I want to try Windows 7 RC in my new drive, once I figure out how to partition it Thanks!

Just Boot with Windows 7 DVD and from there create a new partition in the unallocated space. This will help you..!

Uninstall everything and download Easeus Partition Manager 3.5.

This is an excellent partition management freeware. With its help, you can resize, move, copy, create, convert, explore, delete and format partitions quickly and safely! and the best thing is you can resize/move partition without destroying data.

Try to manually convert the basic disc to a dynamic disk and reinstall your OS. Follow the below steps to do so :
    1. Log in as administrator in the computer.
    2. Go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Select Computer Management.
    3. Now at the left side select Disk Management. At the lower side your see a basic disk tab. Right click on it and select Convert to Dynamic Disk.
    4. In the window select the disk and give OK. Select on Convert.
    5. Now the basic disc is converted to dynamic form.
