    hi,
If the beeps are all the same length it would be a video adapter problem. But, since you have a video display that does not seem likely. Is there a pattern (like 1 beep - a pause - 3 beeps - a pause - 4 beeps)?

Usually when the computer beeps it is because it failed its POST (power on self test). That beeping should occur before windows starts to load. So that makes me think it is not the POST causing issues. Run a virus program if you can and see if it finds anything. If I were you I would backup all my data and completely restore the computer. Although this is a last resort, I can't find anyone with similar symptoms and a couple of hours of backing up and restoring your computer is better than dealing with it.

As for your computer, first of all, get us those beep codes, they do mean something. Also, look at the back of your computer, there should be some lights labeled "A B C D". These light blink and they tell you something about your computer, see if you can't get the codes off that too (it's difficult sometimes, so just be patient).

If you have a boot cd, try booting from that, like a linux live cd (if you don't have one, go to the ubuntu linux website and download one and burn it). If it boots, then it's your windows instillation that's messed up and we might be able to fix that here, but if it doesn't, then it could be a number of things from your power supply, to your mother board, to your processor, to your hard driver, to your ram, anything.

Re: Computer beeps at XP welcome screen

Welcome screen beeped was just a side effect of the way the old Welcome screen positioned focus at startup and how it handled unexpected input. When the Welcome screen was rewritten for Windows Vista, focus and input were handled differently, and it so happened that the new way didn’t beep under the initial conditions.

The tester in this case was blind and relied upon the beeping to know when the system was ready. The Welcome screen folks had to go back and take extra care to ensure that if you start the computer and wait for the Welcome screen, then hit the space bar, you get a beep.
