Need to Open MyComputer Window Fast?

When I open my Windows XP's My Computer, the operating system searches for the network files and printers I have access to. This causes the icons to display more slowly in the My Computer window automatically . This process can decrease the performance of my system.
How can I make MyComputer window to open fast?

Re: Need to Open MyComputer Window Fast?

If you do not need XP to automatically start searching for network resources and printers, you can configure the searching to stop. All you need to do is

Open My Computer >> Choose Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab >> then Deselect the Automatically Search For Network Folders And Printers check box.
    Click OK.

Your network resources and printers still appear in My Network Places.
You will experience a vital improvement in the amount of time it takes XP to display your icons in My Computer.

You can disconnect unused Network Connections...

You probably found it useful to share files between the computers by mapping a network drive. Network drives allows one computer to read and write files to another computer's hard disk as if it were directly connected. However, they are the main source of slowness.

The problem with network drives is that Windows XP will attempt to connect to the network drives when Windows starts. If the remote computers don't respond immediately, Windows will wait patiently. Additionally, some programs will attempt to connect to the network drives when you browse for files and folders. If you've ever tried to open a file and had to wait several seconds (or minutes!), it's probably because the program was trying to establish a network connection—even if the file you are opening is on your local computer.

To reduce this problem, disconnect any unused drives by following these steps:
    1. Open My Computer.

    2. On the Tools menu, click Disconnect Network Drive.

    3. Select the network drives that you no longer need, and then click OK.
