Installing Windows XP in Gateway Laptop

I just purchased a Gateway P-6822 laptop that came with Vista. Windows Vista is the most horrible, slow and worst operating system to date, even worse than Windows 95 was. Has anyone had luck putting XP onto a new laptop? I know how to do it - I build computers, but I haven't messed around with modern laptops. Thanks in advance for any help.

Your problem is that Gateway has NO drivers for XP for your unit. You'll have to get a list of all the parts in your machine and then go to the web sites of their makers and see if you can find XP drivers.

Re: Installing Windows XP in Gateway Laptop

Much as I hate Vista it works adequately on a new dedicated system and changing to XP may not be worth the hassle. On the other hand there is absolutely no reason for anyone using XP to migrate to Vista and very good reasons not to.

The Vista SP1 is available as a public beta download and seems to increase disc access speeds a bit, although other aspects of Vista remain Vista.

If you are not used to using notebooks then you may not realize that a notebook that is specced similarly to a desktop is always slower than the
    desktop.

One reason is the hard drives generally spin at only 5400 rpm and have
significantly slower read/write times than desktop hard-drives. Even the few 7200rpm laptop hard drives are still not as fast as the larger desktop
    models.

Laptops without discrete video systems can also be slower at complex screen draws.
