Say Goodbye to power cuts and strained eyes! India’s first rechargeable study lamp called StudyLite was launched by BPL today in Bangalore. Developed in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya, the StudyLite has been designed to provide ideal lighting for children, for their studies. Furthermore, with a built-in rechargeable back-up StudyLite can provide light for up to 6 hours without mains power. A boon for children and their parents in these times when frequent power outages are an unfortunate part of lives today.
The lighting part of the StudyLite was developed in collaboration with an expert team from Sankara Nethralaya who provided stringent specifications to ensure the light is ideal for continuous studying by children. Then, BPL engineers used a marvel of modern technology: LEDs as light source for StudyLite because these are highly energy efficient compared to ordinary light bulbs and good for the eyes with no unwanted Ultra violet or Infra red radiations. In parallel, BPL used compact Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery packs to provide back-up to power the light. Finally, BPL worked with Abhijit Bansod, India’s leading product designer to design of true international style. The result is the unique StudyLite – a must for all homes.
“We are extremely happy to have created this breakthrough product that at its heart solves a significant consumer need – the need for uninterrupted light. During power cuts we found children using candles, oil lamps and such other alternatives to study. That got us thinking. We could have easily made a simple rechargeable table lamp but to make sure children do not suffer from improper lighting, we worked with Sankara Nethralaya, the foremost eye research hospital in the country. Their team of experts helped us in making the first such study light in the country that is scientifically tested for ideal lighting ambience. We also used our engineering ingenuity to create an eco-friendly product that uses very little energy and can even run on solar power,” said K Gopi, COO, BPL Techno Vision Pvt Ltd.
“We are delighted to have offered our expertise as eye-care specialists in co-creating this product, particularly ensuring eye care for children. In our research, we found most homes were using suboptimal lighting causing severe stress on eyes leading to discomfort. We are happy to see BPL has come forward to address this concern by bringing out the StudyLite™. Also, our association with BPL in R&D of StudyLite™ is of path-breaking importance because it shows how commercial and research organisations can collaborate to create a product that is good for the society,” said Dr. Varadharajan, affiliated with the Elite School of Optometry, Sankara Nethralaya.
