    Tweaking of Cable Internet

Please someone help! Actually I am new to tweaking and I want to perform my cable internet tweaking. During downloading a file, I get an average speed up to 24-30kb and my subscription is 1mbps. I want to reach the maximum limit speed of 1mbps cable internet. Also let me know that, Is dial up connection is much faster than my 1 mbps cable internet? And below is the test that I have performed.

    Tested on: 06.07.2011 04:40
    IP address: 202.128.xx.xxx
    Client OS: Windows 7

    TCP options string: 020405b40103030201010402
    MSS: 1460
    MTU: 1500
TCP Window: 65700 (multiple of MSS)
    RWIN Scaling: 2 bits (2^2=4)
    Unscaled RWIN : 16425
    Recommended RWINs: 64240, 128480, 256960, 513920, 1027840
    BDP limit (200ms): 2628kbps (329KBytes/s)
    BDP limit (500ms): 1051kbps (131KBytes/s)
    MTU Discovery: ON
    TTL: 50
    Timestamps: OFF
    SACKs: ON
    IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

According to me think you should try the optimal settings in the TCP Optimizer. You can also test from speedtest.net to check and verify the speed from a server that is closer to you. Seeing your test that you have posted seems that the downstream speed is so much lower than the upstream and its bit odd. I think it may be a problem with feed from your ISP provider. Try contacting them for more help.

I would like to let you know that TCP optimization is different for different operating system. For example SG TCP optimization is compatible with Windows Xp operating system. If you perform test with the optimizer that is not fit with the current operating system then you will receive an error message when you will test. To avoid this you have to use compatible optimizer. You don’t have another alternative for that.

    Re: Tweaking of Cable Internet

Since, you have not mentioned what operating system you are using, so it will be difficult for me to answer. Let me assume that you are using Windows 7 operating system. Windows 7 operating system autotunes and Rwin settings cannot be set manually. I think your TCP settings are optimized already. As you have posted in your question the upload speed seems to be very low. This indicates that there might be a presence of malware or else there is possibility that you have problems with signal quality. First you log into the cable modem and check your signal power levels.

You should be a careful while reading the levels. As different bands of modem have different way of readings. The difference is not much. The modem status shows signal to noise ratio which should be above 30. If mid to upper 30’s is good and over 30 usually means that you have got power too much. Under the 25-30 range that means you will start losing packets.

    Re: Tweaking of Cable Internet

I would like to give more information. Now-a-days many current cable modems have a web interface. This web interface shows signal levels. It is as simple as pointing your web browser to the IP address. It is the IP address of cable. For the default IPs and the List of modems, you have to check your hardware database. There are two types of settings for TCP optimizer, they are General settings tab and advanced settings tab. You can use anyone you want.
