hook a network printer up xp home to win 7 x64

Im not great at computers, so was wondering if someone could help me out.

I have a desktop computer with window xp home on it, i installed a canon pixma mp780 multifunction printer to it

I purchased a dell xps laptop with window 7 x64 on it

On the desktop I allowed it for sharing of the printer, I go onto my laptop to add the printer from the network, it shows up, starts to download a little says "checking window updates this might take a while" then says NO DRIVER FOUND then i click ok then says looking for .INF file

    how can i fix this???

If i install the printer to the laptop, then move the printer back to the desktop, will i be able to use it thru the network??

    thank you

First of all download the Windows 7 drivers of canon pixma mp780 multifunction printer and install it in the same Operating System. Or else go to Start > Devices and Printers > Add a printer > Add a local printer > make sure "Use an existing port" is selected, then in the drop down window selecy USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB) > Next > Choose the printer from the Canon list > Next and continue with the installation.
