AVGuard of Avira antivirus is using 50% CPU resource

Please help me friends, its Urgent. I have been using Avira AntiVir antivirus in my Windows XP running laptop. It was working perfectly until yesterday. From today morning it is showing lots of issue. Whenever I am using Internet Explorer and trying to access and sites which leads to loading PDF files, the AVGuard.exe starts consuming upto 50% CPU resources, thus making the system completely useless until I reboot my system. I have checked in task bar that as soon as I AVGaurd.exe enters this state, the IExplorer.exe stops responding, preventing me to delete the processes manually. Does anyone what is the reason behind this issue and what possible I can do to solve the issue.

According to me, you must have kept the Real-time Protection ON in your Avira antivirus. Real-time protection means your antivirus is continuously scanning your computer for suspicious activities like computer viruses, malwares and other germs. This scanning will be done at the time of CD insertion, viewing e-mails, surfing Internet, viewing any existing files, running any program. In short it happens almost every time. Which is why when you are accessing your internet, the AVGaurd.exe keeps scanning the files you are viewing thus utilizing more and more resources.

It might be possible that many processes are running in background or you are using many applications at the moment which is forcing your antivirus to continuously scan more and more files and applications. And when you are running your Internet explorer with sites opening PDF files, more pressure is added to your CPU thus forcing your CPU to utilize more resources. And if your system is restricted to less hardware specification, then you will face this problem more often. So I would suggest you to always keep a check on your system and the processes which are running.

It might be possible that your system is under virus attack and that is why you are facing this issue of your CPU utilization increasing to 50% when you are starting any websites with PDF files on your Internet Explorer. So I would recommend you to first update your antivirus and then perform complete system scanning with least application running in background, thus making your system to scan your system in an appropriate time. If any virus or malicious germs is detected, get rid of them and restart your system to check whether the same issue still exists in your system.

It might be possible that your system and your Internet Explorer is not updated or your running an older version of Internet Explorer in your system, which is causing compatibility issue with the new Avira antivirus which you have installed in your system. So I would recommend you to uninstall the current version of Internet Explorer in your system and install the latest available version of internet Explorer. You can download the latest Internet Explorer from the official website of Microsoft or Internet Explorer.

I have also faced this issue with my Avira antivirus. The AVGuard was utilizing almost all the resources while I was running few applications. Then I came across this one site where it had mentioned that disabling the “Avira ProActive module” would solve the issue. So I tried it and fortunately it did the magic for me. So I would also recommend you to do the same and restart your system. After restart check our whether the problem still exists after disabling the Avira Proactive module.

I also had the same issue and was able to alove the problem by applying the following solution. I uninstalled the "ProActive" module and luckily it solved the problem completely. After I uninstalled the “ProActive ” module, everything seems to me running smoothly. It seems that there is some kind of bug with the AVIRA ProActive module and removing it is solving this annoying problem. Make sure that you have rebooted your system, after uninstalling the ”ProActive” module.
