PE2850 Not Booting or posting

Hi guys, I have got two identical servers. These are PE2850 servers. Both of the machines were working properly until I swapped the CPU. I removed the CPU of one machine to put it on the other machine. Then I tried to boot both the machines. I can hear the fan moving, HD lights goes green and the CD rom lights could be also seen blinking but the unit doesn’t startup. I put back the CPU into their respective machines and tried to power on the unit. The LCD light just goes amber but has damaged. Please help me.

The problem occurred after you swapped the CPU of both the machines. I don’t understand, what made you interchange the CPU of both the machines. Can you read anything from the LCD or it is just blank. Try to reset the mobo HD and RAM and see if it works. The power supply should be disconnected from the system before interchanging the CPU. So were you sure, that you physically disconnected the power from the system. You should have upgraded the BIOS to the latest before Swapping the CPU.

Try to reset the RAM. NVRAM_CLR - Clears NVRAM. You can short the pins 1-2 and this will clear the NVRAM. Here are the jumpers settings that you have to make in order to clear the NVRAM. Make sure that the NVRAM jumpers are in contact with the CLR pins during the boot process. PSWD - Password enable- The system password can be removed and disabled, if you restart the system while its jumpers removed.

You can resolve this problem if you are able to clear the NVRAM. In order to clear it, perform the following steps. Switch off the power of the system and unplug the power source. Now short the pin 1 and pin2 and plug the power source of the system. Turn on the power of the system. After the Post is completed, turn off the system power and then disconnect the plug from the power source. Move the jumpers from pin 1 and pin 2 to pin 2 and pin 3. Now you are done with resetting the NVRAM.

In order to make the processors work in dual proc configuration, they have to be of same speed, cache, class and stepping. If any of these are different in the processors then it will not work. If you observe carefully you will find that, there is a ZIF/LIF lever which locks the processor. Make sure that when you pulled the processors from the machines, you dint damaged the board or the processors or it was not affected by the static charge. If everything is Ok then you can just resetting the NVRAM will solve the issue.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your genuine replies and great support. I have to clear the NVRAM to get the unit function. I had to switch off the power of the system and then have to short the pin 1 and pin 2 with the help of jumpers. Then after turning on the power and when the posting was done, I had turn off the power, unplug the power source. The final step was to remove the jumpers from pin 1 and pin 2 and short pin 3 and pin4. When I switched on the power, NVRAM was reset. Now the both the unit are functioning properly.
