What are important management components in Networks

I have used networking but you can consider me as moderate user, and I am not having much knowledge about it. I am trying to increase the performance of my network. You all should be knowing that disruption to the distribution nodes of a network such as switches and routers or defects in the network lines can lead to partial failures in certain areas of the company. A well-maintained network management prevents through monitoring and analysis capabilities and can increase the network performance. So it would be much helpful for me, if you provide some more ideas regarding it. Also I want to know the most important management components that are used in network managements.

The best way to operate a network to ensure trouble-free, is a permanent monitoring of all active network systems. This includes the switches and routers and the connected client, server or network printer. Thus, the IT administrator is in many cases early on valuable information, such as threatening to performance bottlenecks. With these results, it can take timely countermeasures. But the monitoring of the network is only a part from the network management. Shall belong to the wider activities of the network management, the management and security of IT infrastructure. In this context, the performance and availability of the network play an important role. It must not be forgotten that the network management is an integral part of the overall corporate IT and it must also be considered as such. This means that the network management, IT managers should smoothly fit into the overall design of the IT infrastructure and manage it accordingly.

More important than the question of which components are to be managed and monitored, is the decision about which areas the network will be extended management. Standard and base also is in control, whether or not and with what power a system. Assuming a switch as an example, all its features, its utilization and the error rate for each port to monitor. Historically, many companies began monitoring in this way with the aim of building a better control over the availability of networks. Over time, priorities have to move, now have security issues such as compliance requirements in the network management found its way. For instance Network Access Control (NAC) is primarily a question of the interplay of various management components.

Besides safety, another aspect of the network monitor is brought to the fore. While these are mainly used in the provision of basic services in the network concentrated, focus was now extended to the applications. If everything works properly, the end point defined where the user's tasks with the help of the computer must do. Problems with building delays are often long time on that show but then all of a sudden impact. Therefore it is very important to have a baseline to establish the normal operation of applications so that deviations are detected quickly and reliably. The solution is application performance monitoring. The more complex the business applications are used, the more likely a problem, with simple statistics and general values can not be solved. In practice, therefore, be analyzed and evaluated significantly lower. Just as does the use of standard tools, SNMP and NetFlow to short because of significantly higher levels of application problems often arise as tools to analyze them.

Application Performance Monitoring, however specifically monitoring the quality of user transactions from the perspective of the application level. It is crucial that resources are consumed and when, how often and why that happens. Here, the interaction of the individual application components is as important as the behavior of the included back-end systems. In order to control the application performance, companies are different approaches are available. A variant are synthetic transactions. It describes the usage profile of the application by one or more clients simulated and measured response times of the application server. The advantage of this method is the relatively low cost, appropriate scripts and test frameworks are available for most typical business applications such as SAP or Exchange. It is often criticized, however, that the simulation of the real situation is not as close to how it should and the values differ from reality.

Another disadvantage of the synthetic transactions with all other active test tools have in common is the influence of testing on the production network. Each simulated request loaded network and servers. This also applies to the second test method, the software interface to use. Here, the application itself provides current information on their utilization, delays and other statistical data. The open source API Application Response Measurement is an interface that even large companies such as SAP and Oracle are supported. The data obtained have an enormous extent. Therefore, they are more suitable for developers for an administrator who will ensure a smooth operation. In larger companies where there are dozens of critical applications and services, including each program should be individually monitored via the API - not a justifiable expense.

Another option for monitoring application performance monitoring systems are client-based. Here is a software agent returns to the client even data on response times and throughput. However, the measurements are limited to the monitored clients: Who does not want to burden any PC with an agent, runs the risk that problems remain unnoticed in unattended PCs. Still lack the last variant of the performance monitoring: the passive analysis of log data. While the aforementioned approaches try to analyze from top to bottom, this variant is the other way. By collecting all data packets, an appropriate analyzer to record a complete picture of application behavior - from the client's request to the backend request to the database.
