Error code 36 on network file

I am having problem with accessing the files on which are on the Windows server. Whenever the finder tries to open any file which is needed to run any application then I get the popup error message and the application is aborted. Anytime when I try to do that then it gives me a message that the operation cannot be completed and there is an unexpected error that is error code -36. I don’t have any problem when I access the files that are on the local location. I have tried everything from my side but nothing was helpful to me. Do you have any idea that what is wrong with it then please help me? Thank you very much in advance.

Hey I think that I have the solution for this. One computer that is in my office was also having the similar problem with it. This is started from when I downloaded 10.5.8 version. I tried many things to solve the issue but all were just waste of the time. Finally I decided to move back to 10.5.7 version. To my surprise, it gets the issue off and now I don’t have any problem with it. Just try the solutions that you know and if you find that it is not working then according to me this is the only option left for you. Good Luck!!!

This is not just problem with the Mac to Windows. This issue is seems to be in the way by which OSX 10.6 Finder try to connect to Windows servers and authenticate SMB/CIFS. Just check for the authentication for the Windows server and do the correction accordingly. I am not sure that what you have to do exactly there but it is definitely related to the authentication settings. I wish that you will be able to get the option to do that. Thank you.

Why don’t you contact to Apple support. They will provide you the best way to do that. They are the people who know that where is the exact problem and how can you get it solved. Call them and ask them for the issue. You should do this before trying to do anything else from your side. This will be the best and the safest way to resolve that problem. Please post the solution if you get it working so that other users over here who are surfing for the similar issue can get help.

Every file and folder has some permission attributes and according to that it decides the access limit of any user on that file. I think that there is some problem with the permissions or we can say extended attributes that may be penetrated from the Windows box to the files and that is why you are not able to open or copy the files to your Mac. Just check foe these permission and change then accordingly. In my case it was protected to from any other user access and I removed that permission and now I don’t get any such error message.

Re: Error code 36 on network file

This error comes when there is dissimilarity in smb and afp file sharing between the OS X and windows server. There is software available on internet that can solve this problem. Name for the software is ExtremeZip which is from the Group Logic. Search for this on internet and download it. You will get it for free. Install that on your computer. It has a very simple interface and this may solve the problem of file browsing.
