Not able to install an Exchange Server 2010 Roles

Having a brand new HP computer with Windows 2008 R2 operating system. All windows are updated and newly created server. With VMWare ESXi 4 environment along with 8 GB RAM and 4 CPU’s. The domain control initially established with Windows 2003, but later upgraded on Windows 2008 R2. Now I want to switch into Windows server 2010 service pack 1 on the above mentioned configuration. The problem is whenever I tried to install the server role (like, Mailbox, Unified Messaging, Hub Transport, Client Access) , I got an error
"$error.Clear(); set-ExchangeServerRole -identity $RoleFqdnOrName -IsHubTransportServer:$true -DomainController $RoleDomainController" when it runs on “Property IsHubTransportServer”
I tried several times to install Windows server 2010, but can’t able. Any solution regarding this? What are the requirements for install it?

According to your post, make sure that the windows server 2003 is the functional level of your forest. And the Schema masters are running under Windows server 2003with either the service pack 1 or the other later versions. For windows 2008 with service pack 2 or the later version or R2, the full installation option are must be for all server running exchange 2010

Diagnose the directory server by the setup. Perform the initial setup and try to find the home server. Indentify the forest AD of your server, then gather initial information regarding your server installed. If you are installing server role and intend the server as a member of database availability group. You have to run the Enterprise Edition of Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

The windows server exchange 2010 is fully supported with Exchange 2003. If you are trying to upgrade your server which is already in your Exchange 2003. The replication issue which occurred fix it, which can be caused by revering the snaps. Deploy the exchange 2007 into yoyr exchange 2003 sever organization.

I had an same problem in my office, jut look into the issues, we have currently have an active exchange 2003 exchange environment. We did not exchange 2007. We have an upgrade Exchange 2010 and after doing an installation of Exchange, we have started this process. The first step is to upgrade the AD by using prepare AD. We removed the server Exchange 2003, after installed Exchange server 2010 and migrated all the rolls.

Reboot the windows 2008 DC. Install the Windows exchange server on a separate datacenter like Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 2010 in a VMware virtual environment. In addition delete the exchange service configuration in WCC-APCCS (along with the server and site name) and the container with FYDIBOHF23SPDLT at the end. Beside that try to check the configuration of the container ADSIedit.msc of Windows exchange 2010. Also check whether there is any object of the exchange server with the same name.

Re: Not able to install an Exchange Server 2010 Roles

To install Exchange server 2010, first you need to delete clearly the group file of the existing server file(Exchange server 2008). Sometimes the existing exchange server file issues may create problem to install another exchange server(Exchange server 2010). Remember that, do not use the same image of Exchange server 2008DC with the Server 2010. Though you have no organizational network, you run the setup and prepare for the AD.
