Is Norton SafeWeb increasing the online comfort?

I am using a Dell vostro 1014, and using it from last 8 months it has windows 7 as the operating system with 250GB hard disk, and 2GB RAM and other latest configuration. I have recently took an internet connection, But due to some influence of my friend i am worried a bit that internet safety should be maintained properly an if not done such than it will cause problems to our web accounts. Are they true? And if yes then what kind of safety should i use and also i have heard about Norton Safe Web is it a good and secure. please help i am confused.
