KVM switch + Windows 7 creates monitor switching nightmare

I have just installed KVM and QEMU. Then, Windows 7 Release Candidate KVM's turn. So far so good. Now I have but the problem I in Windows under KVM neither sound nor get a decent graphics support point. This is true both wonderful in Virtualbox, but there is not the performance so intoxicating. So I ask, there are KVM possible to resolve these problems and if so how. If not, the question whether such facilities are provided in the planning for the future development of KVM.

I am not sure about the problem but with the KVM switch you are using might have some issue related to display. It might not able to provide the EDID and DCC information on the screen. Try a different channel or system for the same then check back. It is also possible that things might not be detected or recognize and that might be causing the issue. Windows 7 keeps on checking the display and display card.

Linux offers a wide choice of virtualization technologies, many of which operate in their own ways I / O. The company that maintains the project has released KVM para-virtualized drivers for Windows guests. Unfortunately these drivers are only for the network interface, when you do not know when they are also released drivers for disk controllers. It means that at least for now be content of the increased performance of the network.

If you have in your possession a virtual machine already installed and configured with an IDE interface, the first thing to do is create a disk image from scratch and download the ISO with updated drivers from the link included in the bibliography. And edit the configuration of our Windows based guest adding the devices section and downloaded the iso disk image you created earlier, then start your guest.

KVM is an interesting solution for virtualization, and because it was the first inside the nucleus, it is easy to assume that it will soon be making headway in server virtualization. Recently, other methods are competing for entry into the nucleus (such as UML and Xen), but since the KVM requires so few changes and was able to transform a standard kernel in the hypervisor, it is understandable why the choice was made in her favor.

Another advantage of KVM is that because she is a part of the nucleus, it can take advantage from the development and optimizing the kernel. This demonstrates the promise of this approach compared with other independent implementations hypervisor. Two major limitations KVM consist in the fact that it requires the newest able to virtualization of processors and start the process of QEMU in user space for I / O virtualization.

Anyhow KVM is already in the kernel, which is a huge leap forward compared with existing solutions. For simplification and harmonization of working with various virtualization can use a convenient front end virt-manager on redhat. Separately, the GUI interface can be supplied from packages virt-manager and virt-viewer. Then you can manage virtual machines through the GUI in Applications > System Tools > Manager.
