Trojan Horse Generic 16.BVN problem

I have a desktop and it is been installed with Windows Xp. I have installed AVG antivirus application to the system and the problem is that when I scanned my system I got a file corrupted and it was affected by Trojan Horse Generic 16.BVN virus. I am not able to remove the virus and do not know what could have been the issue. Also I am not able to remove it via power threat user. Please help.
