I do not think that you should disable an avast anti virus while updating your windows. There is nothing in an Avast that would be stopping you from getting windows updates on your computer. So feel free to run avast while updating your windows version. And it would be even better if you keep your avast enabled so that if there would be anything malicious on webpage then you will get noticed about the same.

It is true that getting something from an internet could be a problematic if your anti virus software is enabled but i have seen that when you are updating anything from an official and reputed website then there would be nothing disturbing from the anti virus software. So i think you should go ahead updating your windows with running avast on your system. I have updated my windows many times with running avast and never faced anything wrong.

There is no relation between the updating the windows and running an security software on your system at the same time. So they would not be interfering with each other unless and until there is something malicious in windows updates which never happens. Still you may disable an Avast on your system while windows update but note that your system would be at high risk while using an internet.

Disabling and enabling an anti virus software does not have anything related to the windows updates. You can do whatever you want to do with your avast anti virus while your windows gets updates. But it is for sure that there would be very much high risk for using an internet without enabled avast. So do whatever you want but make sure that it would be at your own risk.
