Combofix is best if your PC is suffering from an infection that your antivirus usual can not solve, then Combofix may be the solution. It is able to remove malware such as SurfSideKick, QooLogic, Vundo or Look2Me. There is not more options provided in this software but it is quiet recommended that when you are scaning your system do not run any program or application. Just run the scan.

The action of Combofix is rather aggressive and can affect your system. Misuse of this utility can cause malfunction of the computer. It should therefore be considered as a last option and before that I will recommend you to use some other freeware tool. Combofix is the terror of rootkits. With less options but much more powerful. The best thing is that it is a free tool.

Re: Running Combofix without prompts (silent mode)

I have Windows Office XP Professional SP2. I had installed Microsoft AntiSpyware, Symantec Antivirus Corporate Ed and I sometimes use Spybot. Since the time I am getting continuous popups saying that Microsoft Internet Explorer and got a new security threat has been detected: the MyDoom virus. And suddenly there is a recommendation for download of a security solution to prevent further infection. If I click OK I am redirected to another site that analyzes my computer and when I was told that I have thousands of potentially dangerous and that. Should I use combofix for ths.

It is not necessary, you can just use your antivirus under safe mode option. They are malware and your antivirus is not updated due to which you are getting the warning. Just scan your system continuously and it be gone. Don't visit such sites which have malware and threats in them. This sites are the major cause of virus so you must avoid them and always keep your firewall on.

Combofix is a nice utility. The best thing is that you can use it with your other programs and antivirus software. All you need is to first close everything you are using right now and then run the scan or else it will end process on. Scan your system for virus and then check back. It is a powerful utility which is a much better solution for antivirus support. The other option is SUPERAntiSpyware or Sophos Anti-Rootkit
