Cannot access Internet on Asus N61JV-JX037X laptop

I am facing problems while connecting my laptop to Internet. I have recently bought an Asus N61JV-JX037X laptop which is installed with Windows 7 operating system. I have a desktop computer which is running on Windows XP operating system and is connected to the Internet connection. The internet connection is provided by Linksys wireless router. The problem is I am not able to connect the laptop to the Wireless router and hence there is no internet connection. Therefore if anybody can explain me why I Cannot access Internet on Asus N61JV-JX037X laptop then it would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Every device that is connected to the computer requires a set of drivers to be installed on the computer so that the device works properly. If the appropriate drivers are not installed then the device will not work properly. Therefore check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working properly on the computer. To check if the drivers are installed and working properly on the computer, right click on My computer and then go to device manager. Highlight the network adapter and then see if there are any
caution signs. Follow the troubleshooting procedure if there are any caution signs. If troubleshooting does not help then try and update the drivers for the network adapter.

The problem can be with the Network interface card which is installed on the computer. Network interface card is responsible for connecting the computer to the network. If the NIC of the computer is not working then the computer will not be able to connect to the network. All the NIC's have a software testing port configured which can be used for testing. The test port IP address is 127.0.0.0. To test the NIC of the computer, Click on Start and then select RUN. Now type "Ping 127.0.0.0" in run tab and hit enter. Check if there are any errors in sending and receiving data. If there are any errors then the NIC is faulty and needs to be replaced. Replacing the NIC will solve the problem.

The default IP version of Windows XP is IPv4 while the default IP version of Windows 7 is IPv6. Therefore if two computers which are running on these operating system are connected on the same network, then there is possibility of getting problems in the network. You will have to disable the IPv6 support of Windows 7 inorder to connect the computer to the network. To disable the IPv6 support, open the network connection and then go to TCP/IP properties. Now remove the check mark from "Enable IPv6 support" and save the settings. Now reboot the laptop and try connecting to the router.

Have you checked the configuration of the router? It is possible that the router is not configured properly and hence you are not able to connect to it. If the router is not configured properly then the devices which are connected to it will not be able to access all the resources of the network. To check if the router is configured properly, contact the ISP and get the proper settings for the router. Now login to the router using the Default Ip address and open the configuration page. Check if the settings entered in the router are same as that provided by the ISP. If there are any changes to be made, do it and then save the configuration. Reboot the router and then connect the laptop to the router.

DHCP running on the router is responsible for assigning IP address to the devices which are connected to the router using Wireless connection. DHCP assigns IP address to the devices from the pool of IP address. If the DHCP on the router is not working properly then the device will not be able to connect to the router. Try disabling and then enabling the router on the router. Login to the router using default IP address of the router and then open the configuration page. Disable the DHCP on the router. You will have to login to the router again once the DHCP is disabled. Enable the DHCP and save the settings. Reboot the router and see if the laptop is able to connect o the router.
