Before Implementing any hardware for sharing the Internet connection, first be sure that the same Internet connection can be used on multiple computers. Sharing the same connection on different computers is not supported by lot of Internet service providers. Majority of the Internet service providers track the Mac address of the computers which are connected to their connection this helps the ISP's in differing the services to the computers which are using their subscription. Hence first be sure that the connection can be shared and then implement any solutions.

To configure the router first you will have to login to the router. To login to the router you will be needing the default IP address of the router which can be found out by referring the user manual of the router. Type the Default IP address of the router in the Address bar of the browser and hit enter. The system will prompt you to enter the User name and the password. Enter the correct combination of the User name and the password. Now you will be redirected to the router configuration page. Contact the ISP and get the configurations which are required for connection sharing.

As suggested by you I got the default IP address of the Linksys router by referring the User manual and then typed it in the address bar of the browser. But the system did not prompt me for user name or password, instead it displayed "Page cannot be displayed" web page. Therefore I cannot get the configuration page, so please help to resolve this issue.

I think you must have not entered the IP address of the router correctly. If you type the incorrect IP address in the address bar of the browser then it will show the "Page cannot be displayed" therefore enter the IP address carefully. Also check if there are any firewall enabled on the computers. If there are firewalls enabled then disable all the security software's and then try to login to the router. Security software's tend to block any unknown traffic originating or coming to the computer.

Yes there was firewall which was enabled on the computer which was blocking me from login in to the router. As suggested by you, I disabled the firewall and then entered the IP address of the router. I got the User name and the password page on which I entered all the correct details. After that I was redirected to the configuration page but I am not sure what settings to do. So can you please guide me through.

I suppose that the Internet is working on the Desktop computer without any problems. If the Internet is working on the desktop computer then there is not much of a configuration needed to be done on the router. Login to the router as told in the above post and then go to the configuration page. In the configuration page select the WLAN tab. Now enable the WLAN by check marking against the Enable button. Now select the type of encryption required for the network. Then select the Authentication password and SSID. Save the configuration and then reboot the router. Now you will be able to share the connection on both computers.
