No Workgroup Connection between Windows 7 and XP !!

I am having one desktop with Windows XP as operating system and a laptop having Windows 7. I have installed the proper drivers that are needed. But then also they are not able to connect to each other. Whenever I try to access any file from desktop to laptop or vice-versa, I get message stating that "You do not have permission to access". When I brought laptop of my friend having Windows XP on it. That time my desktop and that laptop was accessing the resources properly. I guess that Windows 7 should be having some settings, that I am not aware about. So does anyone know where I am going wrong.?? Please Help..!!

First check the permissions. By default Windows doesn't allow the access to the unknown. So make the proper changes in the permissions. Also you can enable the option of File Sharing on the desktop that is having the Windows XP operating system. You can do this setting by just doing the right click on folder that you want to share. Then allow that folder as sharable. I hope this will help you..

I think that the following steps may prove useful to you :

    1. Create a User on your Windows XP desktop. Use the function gpedit.msc to stop this User to log in locally.
    2. Also Disable the simple file sharing.
    3. Now create your network shares and make sure that the newly created user has rights to them, both in the share and the security settings.
    4. When you try to browse over the network to your Windows XP desktop from your Windows 7 machine and get prompted for a user-name and password; use the correct details of the account you have just created.
    5. This will allow you to browse to specific file shares that you have created on your Windows XP machine form your Windows 7 machine.

If you want to access everything, set the newly created account as an administrator. Maybe, that the message "You do not have permission to access"
is coming because you don't have the proper rights. Once you create an account as an administrator then this issue will get resolved.

While making the files to share first make sure both machines are members of the same Work-group which by default is named Work-group. Now go to the Control Panel of Windows 7 and select the program 'All Control Panel Items' and then 'Network and Sharing Center'. After entering in that option click on Change advanced sharing settings. Now if you check the Network in Windows 7, you will able to see your system having Windows XP and the Windows 7 (self). If you want to share the Printer on the Windows 7, then go to Devices and Printers from the Start Menu and then click on the Printer icon. Follow the instructions to share the printer in that dialog box. Then you will able to share the printer.

You can follow any one procedure that have been mentioned by Zachary or
Spyrus. It will work for you. You have to create the same user on the Windows XP and 7. You can keep the password field blank, but that is not recommended. If you think that you are only using both the systems then you can keep it blank. But if there are any important documents present in that system, then it is recommended to give the password.
