Its the most common and basic thing for networking that what is meant by server. Server is a same computer as you use at your home but the only difference is it is a computer program that gives a service to the clients. Like your home computer act as a client and the google which gives you the service is called as a server.

Dear, Server and Protocol have much differences. In fact they are totally different things in networking world. Protocol work as a gateway on network. Protocol is the one which allows the data to travel on network. Network cannot be made without protocols.

Server just act as a waiter in a restaurant. Like u tell him for your choice of food and he serves you that one. Similarly while you request anything on the network then server is the one who gives you the requested data by you. And protocol just act like Toll Plaza you have seen on roads. Every data goes through the protocol and it sees that particular data should go on particular network or not.
