    You can connect your desktop with your laptop using lan.
    Give this id to your desktop pc.
    ip -> 192.168.1.2
    mask -> 255.255.255.0
    gateway -> 192.168.1.1
    and this id to your laptop
    ip -> 192.168.1.4
    mask -> 255.255.255.0
    gateway -> 192.168.1.3
    And see this works, check out your connection.

    You can connect your both systems with the cross cable. For that you need to configure your static network settings,For desktop make it as
    Ip 192.168.1.10 and for laptop 192.168.1.11 and subnet mask as 255.255.255. Now check out , whether it works or not.

    Re: Desktop and Laptop via Lan

    For connecting desktop with laptop through lan, you will require a crossover lan cable. By connecting your desktop and laptop and by configuring the Ip address of same series for communication, you can establish a connection between the two and you can transfer any data you want to transfer. For this purpose you will require a crossover lan cable or two straight lan cables and a switch/hub.
