    Need removal intruction for Trojan.Backdoor.Progdav

    Hi,
My system is infected with Trojan.Backdoor.Progdav virus. I had seen the same in log file generated by Hijakthis. I had run a antirspyware tool. After scanning it does not showed up any removal result for the virus. I think the virus is still present in my system. I need some removal instructions for the same. How to remove the same manually. I am currently using Windows XP. Thanks.

As you get the information about the virus first always disable system restore option. Because if the service is on then it is possible that the virus will be restored in your system back. You can do the same by right clicking the drive and configuring the settings. Second thing first update your antivirus. Restart your system in safe mode by pressing F8 at the boot time. Run the scan. If the infected files are quarantine then search for the files in your system. Delete them manually.

The files infected or created by the virus might be hidden. Open My Computer and click on on Tools > Folder Options. Go to view and select view all files. Then get a spyware removal tool and scan your system with it. Also click on Start > Run > Type sfc /scannow. It will scan the system for protected Windows file. It will prompt you for a Windows disc. Provide the same.

It is recommended that you must never run system restore while infected with virus. Because this restores back all corrupted file in your Windows. First delete all the restore points and create a new. Get a good antivirus like Norton, Kapersky, etc and run a full system scan under safe mode. Virus also corrupts windows registry files which leds to system crash. If you system is severely infected and performing low then run a Windows repair process via Windows disc.
