Removing asset tag from laptop

Recently i had bought a new Dell laptop on which i had installed Windows Vista as my operating system. I would like to know that how can i remove asset tag from laptop? I know that it's possible to do with some utilities. Svctag.exe doesn't work, may be wrong version or because laptop seems to be relatively new. Does any body knows about it? Kindly provide me the correct solution for the above issue. Would be grateful to you if any body provides me the correct solution for the above issue.

According to me, yes you can do it. For that you can use USB key or either can use a bootable CD. It can also be done by using an inexpensive USB floppy drive locally.

If you want to erase or remove the asset tag, then you need to browse to the directory where the file is located in DOS.It is done this way since it can be used to clear asset tag information from machines which obviously lends itself to the possibility for misuse. For that you need to boot to the resource cd and then need to exit to DOS and have to navigate to the "BIOS" directory.

I think you should try manually in order to access the desired information on your computer. For that you need to use SVCTAG.EXE software on your system. As this software is updated frequently by Dell to cover new models as they are released.
