I have a computer which has Windows XP SP3 installed. Recently it lost connectivity with the router to which it is connected. Internet is supplied by the router to this wired computer and wireless to the laptop. My computer doesn't connect to the router and doesn't get a proper IP Address. Instead getting the IP adress of rang 192.168.x.x it takes 169.254.x.x. When i try to renew the IP Address it shows me "Unable to contact dhcp server" error. Can anyone please help me solve this problem?

Try to connect your laptop to the router through ethernet cable and see if it gets the proper IP address. If the laptop does then its the fault of the network adapter card. At this time you will need to install the new network interface adapter card. If the laptop acts in the same way as your computer then try changing the cable. This should fix the problem.
I tried it both ways. But it didn't help. I reinstalled windows and still it didn't help. I'm really frustrated. How do i connect the computer to the router? Please help i cannot open the router config page from any web browser. I guess i blew my router... Any other thoughts? Please help..!

I think it not a problem with any hardware or software component. It may just be a configuration issue. Manually assign the IP address of the range that your router assigns normally. Now try to access the router page and it should open. If it does then check dhcp settings. Make sure DHCP Server is not turned OFF.
