    Is Alcxmntr.exe a spyware

I scanned my system recently with Mcafee Antivirus. It detected some and deleted. In the result window I saw a file called alcxmntr.exe . Then after few days in my Task Manager I noticed the same file back again. It is a kind of virus or spyware. I stopped the service from the task manager. But my sound disappeared. After restarting everything goes back to normal. Help with this.

No it is not a virus or a spyware. It comes in your system when you purchased it. It is a file related to your sound hardware driver for Realte AC97 audio service. It is not an important process but you must not end it until needed. There are some spywares and virus which use the same name but it detected easily by any antivirus and cleaned. If you are getting errors related to this file then you can turned it off. But it is not recommended to do so. As your sound can mess out. The best thing is to update your sound drivers. The simple solution is to run a registry scan. Because if it an sound file then it will do nothing but if it is a virus then it will modify your registry. The error related to this is caused due to outdated drivers.

The name of the process under which this file runs is called Realtek Audio Event Monitor. It is provided by the realtek company. It is an critical system components. It is also true that some virus too come in the same name. The only bad part of this file is it consumes too much cpu at start up. You can stop it from the startup service if your don't required it. It is installed with the hardware at time when you put any drivers. The best thing is to run a full system scan. If it is a spy ware your anti virus will detect it and remove it.

The location of file aclxmntr.exe is c:\windows. The size of this file is around 57 kb. It is a trust worthy file from Microsoft. It launches automatically at startup. It is termed as 20% threat to system. If you use normal speakers then you can stop the service. It is normally a part of audio driver. Update your driver and the any error related to it will disappear. It basically a harmless file. If still persist any threat better scan your system and browse for the path of file. If the file is not a windows system file then your system is affected with virus.
