How do i determine an ip address?

I have installed Windows XP SP3 on my computer. I just moved to a new place and found out that guys in these area play a lot of Multi-Player Games as they have interconnected their computers as a network. I want my computer to be a part of that network but i was told i need to know my IP Address as they cannot find me in their network. I have not entered any IP Address for my computer. How do i determine an IP Address on a computer? Help Guys!

Go to start menu click on 'All Programs' then go to 'Accessories' and click on 'Command Prompt'. When a DOS window appears type :

ipconfig /all

From that section see the IP Address written below : "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection". That will be your IP Address and other TCP/IP settings that are configured on your computer.

You can also do this :
Go to Run
Type 'cmd' and press Enter
Type "ipconfig /all" and press Enter
Now see "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection"
Similar to the above one but just a shortcut to access command prompt

Sometimes if your computer is a part of office network, many system tools and utilities may be blocked. But in Windows XP there are two versions on Command Prompt. If you find 'cmd' locked, just type 'command.com' in the run dialog box. This will open the Windows 98 like Command Prompt window. You can then use 'ipconfig /all' command.
