In order to hide your Vista computer from network map, follow this steps:-

    1. First open and run the command prompt as an Administrator.

    2. Now type Net config server /hidden:yes and press Enter.

    3. If every thing goes correct you will get the message “The command completed successfully.”

Thats it..To confirm whether your computer is hidden or not type Net Config Server in the command prompt and press Enter.

If you want to prevent people from gaining access to your computer's shares and other services, make sure you properly configure it and secure it with either the built-in Windows Firewall, or a 3rd-party firewall.Remember, hiding your Computer from the Network is by no means secure or a substitute for security. You should always secure your shares when necessary with proper permissions.
