Connection between Hard drive and Router.

    Hello All

I would like to have a big hard drive in my network at home. So a hard drive that all computers are at home can connect to and paste and take files. Is this possible? The hard disk should preferably be connected directly to the router because I do not want to have a hard drive on your computer, as the others can go into, because the computer also must be switched on before you can download files.

Can we really just do not connect directly between the router and hard drive by buying a cable with one end in a Lan input and a second end with a USB input? Just can not find it?

    Thank you in advance.

P.S. I have an Linksys router

You must buy a "NAS (Network Attached Storage) with built in FTP (File Transfer Protocol). How one can be connected to a router via a standard power cord. Additionally, you must have a static IP address at home before you can access the disk remotely.

Linksys has a product called the "Linksys Network Storage Link" which allows you to take any ordinary USB External hard drive and connect it to your router, wired or wireless. I was able to find one online easily. Hooked it up, works perfectly.
