    Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap

    Hello Friends,

I had some issues related to "Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap" this happens when I used my computer for hardly 4 -5 hours and on the next it comes with the blue screen error message that crashes on W2K.

Can anyone tell one how to get rid of this error.

    Thanks in advance.

    When did this start?

The Kernel is the core of the OS, so I'd start thinking about any changes you've made to your computer recently such as:
    • new hardware
    • new software particularly low level stuff like device drivers, firewalls, hotfixes and security patches.

    Are you running SP4?
Is there any pattern to this BSOD? e.g. It happens after playing video games for a couple hours versus. immediately after booting.

Ah, 404, you have picked up quick on "problem programs" and their various fixes and patches. So: go to McAfee and download the latest engine update. And, check their FAQ's for answers. To tell the truth, I don't feel like checking right now: it's been a long day, and WD is in an uproar over "other" issues right now. But: the answers are there. If need be, uninstall McAfee! Sorry to say it, but AV programs have become as much of a problem as all the other problem programs, as well as Windows. DAMN: doesn't it piss you off?
If you give the exact error message with the info that comes after the "kernal mode trap' error, we can help further...if you want to pursue this.
First off: go to System Properties/Start Up and Recovery. Then "uncheck" Automatically Restart. Then, you'll at least be able to see the whole error message, which you can then relate to us for further troubleshooting.

    Re: Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap

Kernel Trap are where something in memory was no longer the same value that was placed there by the OS. When this happens, the OS panic's and is trapped (in windows). The cause of the value changing could be due to poor programming of a device driver (one of the few ways to have the trap occur in the kernel) or a hardware caused failure (power loss, transient spike or battery failure).
