Windows 7 Network Missing User Name

I finally networked my 2 pcs. one desktop w/ windows 7 and my laptop downstairs is now connected to the network wirelessly. I can access all folders from the win 7 pc but when I try to access the win 7 pc it asks for a user name and password. I have the password given to me by the win 7 pc.

What do you mean by password given to you by Windows 7 !! ??
You must have created a username and given a password for it as the login account in Windows 7. While accessing that PC through another PC, enter the same username and password to access your Windows 7 and you will be able to access its resources remotely.
