Microcode wont install with the FX-8120 processor

I guess the FX-8120 Bulldozer and ESXi 5 do not get along together. The issue is with the installation. I was supposed to install it on one machine on a thumb drive and then I was booting on another, but the problem was with the microcode installation for the FX chip. There were errors about the microcode about the CPU microcode not existing.

I think that the problem is with the motherboard or with the BIOS, but not so sure. So can you help me out in letting the exact issue and the solution?

Ok, so the microcode was unable to get install for the FX chip. This could be probably due to the absence of FX in the machine.

You just have to make sure that you install it on the same architecture that you are supposed to use. I generally perform the USB method without getting any issue, anyhow the architecture are all over the same.

Here is my built which I made exactly as I wanted and also it is working great with no issues
    • OCZ ZT Series 650W
    • Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
    • AMD FZ-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz AM3+ Eight Core
    • (two pairs) CORSAIR Vengence 2x8GB DDR3 1600
    • Sapphire Radeon HD 5450 1GB
    • Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS

Now let me tell you that it is running ESXi 5.0 and what came to my knowledge was that onboard Realtek NIC was easily supported by ESXi. Without facing any issue I just fixed it together using the stock cooler.

I have the exact same setup 990FXA-UD3 board and FX-8120. But unfortunately the setup is facing an unexpected error or you can say it as issue that you must have not experienced.

Whenever I try to run on High Performance power mode everything runs fine for few days, once I left it for 4 days which was actually the longest I ever kept and the usage was some approximate 120W. But when I set it to low power or at balance mode it goes down at 80W and ultimately locks up. And when locks up the power usage is stuck at specific point.

Anyone having the same issue is something similar to this?

Yes I have been facing this issue, the exact same issue with exact power usage registered. But in my case whenever it locks up the power usage not just stuck up somewhere above idle at a particular point but also it does not fluctuate at all. In a normal mode it sometimes bounces a bit i.e. 1 watt or 2 watt. But when it is locked up then stuck at 114W. The issue is I think not related to heat, it has however lasted before the lock up as short as 2 hours and as long as 48 hours.

I think you should probably try to turning OFF undervolting, overclocking, downclocking, C1E and C6 power modes and other related things. In my case right now in high performance mode I can have it running at some 3.4GHz standard and 3.8GHz Turbo in order to match 2600K and undervolted 0.01v.

Hello friends sorry if I am posting it in a wrong section or a thread, but I feel that my issue could some relate with this thread and I could probably get the solution for my issue.

I am having a AMD FX-8150 CPU and also I am trying to install ESXi 5.0, but always it is unable to get install with PSOD. I personally feels that at least my issue is not related to the CPU. Just wanted to ask whether anyone over here has tried to run ESXi 5.0 on a Gigabyte GA-880GMA-USB3 F4c motherboard?

Also I would like to tell you that my CPU is set to virtualisation mode. Also I have been trying to install from a SD card to the RAID 1 sata disks, and now I am about to try from a USB key.

Better you don’t install to RAID. I have never encountered these errors. Instead of installing to RAID better you pull out the disks out and install to a 1GB USB stick or more than that, with no disks at all. Also make sure to install to the USB stick on the ESXi running machine from the ESXi installer media. I guess the virtualization is enabled in the BIOS. Also try to disable extra devices in your BIOS.
