Does i7 cpu run hot then the core 2 cpu's

Hi all,

I am looking to buy the new windows PC - the basic spec, are21.5inch 3.06 GHz. I'm not to tech savvy when it comes to hardware, but I just notice the i7 chipset. The models are 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor But somebody told me that the i7 cpu run hot then the core 2 cpu's. Is it true? Please suggest.
