1 gb 400 mhz ram problem

i buy a 1GB ram 400mhz ddr1(don't know- single or dual channel). my motherboard is msi915glm-v supporting dual channel 400mhz. when i boot my pc it shows [ 1gb+256mb(old ram)=1256mb -memory ok] then when it loading windows or in desktop screen goes corrupted. no option with out switch off.
i tried with 1 gb only by removing previous 256mb but result is same.
But with 256 mb alone no problem happening.

my question is 1> can normal channel RAM will run in dual channel slot.
2> or any bios configuration change needed.

No need to change any BIOS setup. Can you send me the error details that come after windows start up. It is easy to determine your issue to me. Also check the beep sound after starting the PC. You can also check following thread to check the RAM issue.
