You have not mentioned here which type of work you are going to do on this desktop. But in my opinion you should go for the AMD phenom II x4 820 processor. This processor will give you the amazing performance as compare to the Intel Core 2 duo E8400 processor. If you are a game freak then definitely go for the AMD phenom II x4 820 processor because this processor is made for gaming itself. This processor will not let you down in terms of the performance. But at the end of the day it is your choice because you are going to use this computer system.

The Intel processors are very performance oriented and the long lasting as compared to the AMD processors. The Intel processors are expensive then the AMD processors. So i you have less money then you can buy the AMD phenom II x4 processor. But there is one problem with the AMD processors this is totally made for the gaming and watching movies in the computers. This processors heats more and early as compared to the Intel Core 2 duo processors. So if you are buy the PC for all the purposes then buy the Intel Core 2 duo E8400 processor.
