    Asus M3a78 strange audio issue

    Hello everyone,

On my Asus M3a78,I've noticed that I always have a low mic volume.but in sound settings things are normal as they. Even on X-fire, Ventrillo, Skype, and anything else which has a voice chat option, the mic Audio is very very low. I assume i have all the latest drivers with me.Do i need a Flashing with the motherboard.so am asking Why is my mic so low in voice chat? I've used at least 2 different types of mics/headsets. I have also checked my settings and both Mic and Input levels are at max. It is really disturbing me..!!

    thanks for any thoughts

The issue is that a sound card uses a considerable impedance level called line level, hence line in. Even though one of the ports gives a microphone or has mic in, it doesn't amplify the signal the way it would required to for a "normal" recording. solving this, again using an actual mic, you would required to get a pre amp for the microphone result in havocin the audio signal. There are other alternatives too. If sound quality isn't an issue then you can use a software program to do a digital pre amp, or boost the signal. It does degrade the sound quality but the output would still be good enough for general use. Another option is an analog to digital cable. I've never used one myself, but a friend has and says it works well. This will alter the analog signal from your mic and converts it to digital, usually plugging into a midi, serial, or usb port. This would work for recording, but I don't know how it would work for voice communication.

One thing i should tell is If you are using on board and the front panel, do you have the AC97 or the other header connected? When you say you've tried most of the Windows options, did that include going in to control panel and boosting the mic volume levels?.What does work for some people is changing the default format of recording in W7 . To test it, try setting the default format to "Tape Recorder" quality instead of the current one or one of the lower settings if that one doesn't appear. I know it sounds strange, but it's worked for a few other people

On my mic I have used for Skype early, and actually had to turn it down from the original levels I had it set for (I had given it a test in Cubase SX and had done my best to adjust it for what I saw it needed..guess I was wrong...I made my adjustments via the control panel>Sounds and Audio Devices then select the sound recording>advanced and adjusted the mic level.
