"From March, Intel will make available a new stepping for its Nehalem processor more economical, but nothing on this specific operation"
Intel has announced new technical specifications for the Core i7 processor 920, release from the lowest cost among the new Core i7 CPU based on Nehalem architecture and designed with the combination motherboards Socket LGA 1366. The current stepping, C-0, will be replaced from D-0, requiring an update to the bios of motherboard manufacturers that the cpu is correctly identified.
These features implemented in the new stepping, which is available in a dispatch from next March 2:
- New S-spec (from SLBCH to SLBEJ) and Material Master numbers for the converting products.
- CPUID will change from 0x000106A4 to 0x000106A5.
- The electrical, mechanical and thermal specifications remain within the current specifications. Intel anticipates no changes to customer platforms designed to previous Intel guidelines.
- Readable serial number will be removed from the package ink swatch to fully mitigate the potential risk of the IHS cosmetically a marked overlapping serial number. There is no change to the ULT matrix content which continues to contain the serial number.
How to recognize the cpu stepping-D 0 than C-0? Simply observing the disposition codes in the processor between plate dissipation and base, as shown in the picture provided by Intel.
