Reviews of the latest Net TV User Interface

The new Net TV user interface has been announced by Philips. It is the Portal 2.5 version which has been launched. You just have to install the new portal when the option becomes available on your TV. It will start automatically then. It will work good if you have latest software. You just have to install the latest software when it comes to your TV screen. So, how many of you have got them on your Net TV? How is your experience with the TV

I have tried the new interface and I really like it. I haven’t tried everything yet so far but the most important thing that I like is that we can now make our own personalized menu just like Windows. It has easy drag & drop option and no superfluous app icons anymore. Since the number of icons is reduced it loads faster, though not checked yet. One music app has display built-in as well. The improvements can be addition of support for external subtitles.

I like the PIP (Picture-in-picture) of the TV inside and the overall interface also. I also don’t want to stop the PIP while changing from the main page to applications? How Can I do that? On my 58PFL9955 the apps "Quick Guide" and "France 24" has a cross in the upper right corner and I cannot access it getting some error message the App you are trying to access uses features that are not available on this product. Another thing is the loading has actually become slower than usual though!

This morning around 9:00 it was loading faster, but now it’s loading slower. I agree with you on that. It probably must be with the hosting server problem Maybe there are less load servers for the new portal now and also check the load-balancing algorithms. Another problem is I cannot get the keyboard displayed when I click inside a text box. There are some spelling mistakes on the German version. Also inside the PIP-windows 4:3 broadcasts are stretched to 16:9, so it is very slow coz of that. Still, I like the new interface better than the old one though.

I like that we can keep the history of last 10 searches now. It becomes easier if I want to show it to someone else without typing it again. Though I would like external subtitles support too and more advanced media player which is robust. All these apart, it’s a nice interface which is simple and easy to look and use and also have many new apps inside it which I like. Thank you for the upgrade, Philips.

Ok, so some complaints to a rather nice interface here. What I hate now is that now I have to add apps to my favt. List even before I can test if it is worth being my favorite app. It was not like that earlier, we had a start app button before adding it to favorite. So, please add a “Start App” tab into the gallery. And why can’t we still connect an external keyboard to the interface. I wish it was possible so please tell me how I can do that, it would be really useful, than the online keyboard.

What I think needs to be improved/changed is -
    - You should change the color of background to white.
    - too bad that the PIP window only shows TV (signal from my media player, HD DVD recorder and STB are not picked up/shown)
    - you cannot check/see anywhere as far as I know, if new apps are added.
