    Run the Monitor Self test

I have got a Dell monitor, it is quite old , if to be precise it almost has completed almost four years , so I do not blame its manufacturer if in case there is any sort of issue in it , since I connect my system with a tuner , there is a lot more usage of monitor in my house , sometimes I need to hit my monitor hard to make the video clear if it starts flickering , but how can and when do I need to run the monitor self test , because one day there was no video at all . if any one has any idea then please do not hesitate to comment your post.

Re: Run the Monitor Self test

To physically test the monitor autonomously from the computer, do the following steps.
    • Switch both the monitor and the computer off, and then disconnect the VGA cable le from the computer.
    • Turn the monitor on, pressing the power button for about three seconds. The self-test screen will come up .
    • If the image is clear, bright, and shows red, green, and blue, the monitor is working properly. Video issues may be due to the video resolution in the computer, and not the monitor.
    • If the image is not apparent and intense or the colors are not accurate, then the trouble is with the monitor or some of the (OSD) settings. In this case, test your particular monitor's information for OSD and a few frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Some time also called as STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
    • You can switch off the monitor.
    • Disconnect all the cables from the monitor and from the computer (ALL cables).
    • Connect the monitor power cable directly into the wall socket.
    • Switch on the monitor.
    • The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box must be seen there appear on screen and that may have a black colored background .
    • If the image appears properly, the monitor is working fine and you must look to the video card driver and can check even the video card - If the issue appears during the test then the monitor is faulty.

Well you said that you are not able to get any video on your monitor , I too had faced the similar sort of issue , I did not get any video , then after the passing the monitor self test , it means that your monitor is working absolutely fine so as far it sees that the VGA cable is damaged , if you have any other system in your vicinity, you can borrow the VGA cable and then test it after connecting it with your system. Then tell me even if it does not work.

Re: Run the Monitor Self test

As you said that your monitor passes the monitor self test , but you have not mentioned anything about the video card being installed in it , is there any such as Nvidia or ATI , please let me know, if you have any graphic card installed in it , and if the monitor is fine , your VGA cable is working well as ell ,the only thing remains is the graphic card you can open the system , remove the graphic card and then connect the VGA cable with the integrated port that comes in the motherboard. Please tell me if you have any sort of Video card installed in your system.
