Unable to turn off monitor speakers

I have recently purchased a brand new gateway desktop and that to with the windows 7 operating system. The monitor which I have consist inbuilt speakers on it. Now the thing here is that whenever I play any music files then I get the sound from the monitor speakers only. And if I have to turn off the monitor speakers then I am unable to do it. The most irritating thing is that when I plug the headphones to it then I didn’t get any sound on the headphones but the monitor speakers are playing that file. I don’t know why this is happening and also can’t figure out how to solve the issue. Please help me out of this.

I guess there is way that will help you to troubleshoot this problem. What you have to do is just click on start button and then just select the control panel and now when the control panel window will open that you have to just type troubleshooting in the search box. After that you have to select the hardware and sound option and then try and play a audio. What it will do is just let you know what is wrong with the sound device and then you can recover the same.

Well is this is the issue then you have to just set the headphone as the default one, I just want to say that when you are not getting the sound in the headphone and if the monitor’s speakers is the primary sound output then you can change then to head phone. And to do the same you have to just click on the start button and then just select the control panel and in that you have to just select the hardware and audio device and in that you have to just select the manage audio device and select Sound and under that you have to just set select the headphones as the default playback device.

If you really want to solve the issue then you have to just follow the below mentioned steps:
    • Just right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and then just select the volume control options.
    • Now you will find the check box which is preceded by “All devices currently playing sound”
    • And one thing you have to keep in mind is that you have to uncheck the "The default communication device unchecked".
    • And also you have to check the speaker and headphone icon
    • And doing this you will definitely get the proper sound.

According to me the headphone that you are using is giving you this issue. Now what you have to do here is that just try and use any other headphone and then see whether you are getting the proper sound on the alternate headphone and then you have to just use new headphone and get the issue solved. Also you can disable the monitor speaker by just pressing the speaker button which is already present on the monitor. I hope that at least this one will help you to solve the problem.
