Performance of GeForce 460 GTX on SLi

I would like to upgrade my graphic card and for that I am planing to go for Geforce 460 GTX. Right now have a Asus P5K motherboard. The board is quiet fine and there is really no need of upgrade needed here. I am aware that this is a bit outdated but I am just taking a chance. I have a appropriate inter process with 4GB ram support. I am using a 600w psu and my screen is a 22 inch wide-screen lcd monitor. I do not have any card right now. After searching towards the specifications and other updates. I found this card as the best suited for my system. So I want to know about the performance of the gpu. Does this choice is fine or I should go more specific for better brand and model. In that case Radeon HD 5850 is a another choice but that will need a motherboard upgrade too.

Re: Perforamance of GeForce 460 GTX on SLi

Nvidia GeForce 460 GTX is a nice card which does not need any major upgrade. Unlike ATI, NVIDIA has designed a new architecture to support DirectX 11. This card is well designed to offers you a better graphic performance. I will also not say that is is really a high performance card, but quiet enough to meet the needs of a everyday gamer. There is no need to have any major upgrades on this card. Your motherboard will also do well in the same. Also you must be aware that GeForce GTX 465 is equipped with GF100 recycled that means mean the limited number of active units. So that can only be a major flaw in the card and that also plays a virtal role in the cost of the card.

If you compare this card with the ATI then there are lots of dissimilarities. The DirectX 11 for the ATI Radeon HD 5830 was not so good. I had found that it was hardly 10% faster than the Radeon HD 5770. So if you are using the same and you got for a higher version then there is nothing more you can found. In that case your can simply rely Nvidia GeForce 460 GTX. This card is much more higher in performance and better also. You can also go for a equivalent ATI card if you want to go for. But that is not quietly recommended as in future you might need to go for upgrade. RAdeon HD 5850 is not good in performance and the price of the same is also not really worth.

Re: Perforamance of GeForce 460 GTX on SLi

It is correct that the GeForce GTX 460 based on the new GF104 chipset target which is quiet comparative with the Radeon HD 5830, but this card has left the Radeon behind both in price and performance. For that if you go in detail you will find two important points. It is a mid range card. First the GTX 460 768 MB using a GF100-300 with a 192-bit bus which comes at a very attractive rate and second is that the higher version of 1024 mb is base don GF104-325 (256 bi)t bus for better performance. So you have a two appropriate choice for getting higher performance if needed. On the same hand the price for the same is also reasonable.

Nvidia is a leader in the gpu support and I always choose for the same. Though amd is still in the competition, by nvidia is much better. Now I had noticed that nvidia is changing its design. Right now on the performance basis this card is much more effective. It has o longer than 2 Graphics Processing Clusters. You have to go in more details to understand the actual technical differences. It is not quiet easy to find on some sentences. As per your motherboard configuration it is also better to go for this card. Or else there are already much lower model available other than this.

You can easily compare this card with Radeon HD 5830. You can also check the price difference between them. For the performance thing I will also recommend you to have a look on the benchmarks of this gpu. I had noticed that GTX 460 is not able to give a better output on games like Crysis. So it is best to say that it is a mid range card. This card is quiet better than its older models. In comparison to resolution there is more than 10% gain. The GeForce GTX 460 is clearly an excellent investment. The GeForce GTX 460 are clocked at 675 MHz for the core, 1350 MHz for Cuda Core and 900 MHz chips.
