OSD buttons of Dell U2711 not working

Its been four hours that the Dell U2711 flat panel is connected with my Windows PC. When I start the monitor then it lighting up the lights on the OSD buttons but when I tried to make some changes in the monitor's by using those buttons then none of them working except the Exit. When I press the Exit then the 'locked' padlock appears on the screen for about three seconds and then disappears. There is no problem with the current picture but still It would have been better if I can manage it on myself. How can I unlock this buttons?

I think you should go through the manual of your monitor which must be having proper information about the same as I won't be able to judge exactly where to go for unlocking those buttons. I have heard it for the first time that such buttons comes as locked and user have to unlock it. By the way what could be the reason behind having these buttons locked down? I guess manual would be the best way to deal with it.

Though I have never used Dell's monitor so I am not having accurate idea about solving this issue but I have an idea which you may try to unlock the buttons provided on your monitor. I suggest you to keep pressed the OSD button for some seconds and then see that what happens. It might happen that those buttons will gets unlocked.

If it didn't helped you then you should check doing the following procedure which might solve your problem. First of all power off the PC and then switch off the monitor. Now disconnect all the power cord from the back side of the monitor. Disconnect all the monitor cords from the CPU tower as well such as USB, DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI, etc. When you monitor is not connected with any of the machine then keep pressed the monitor power button down for 5 seconds. Now reattach the DVI cord to the monitor and to the PC video card. Connect all the wires and then check that all those buttons have got unlocked or not.

I have used the Dell's flat monitor which has such functions which is quite confusing if the user is using the Dell's monitor for the first time. Actually when your OSD buttons are locked then pressing the Menu button for 15 seconds will unlock the buttons and if OSD buttons are unlocked then pressing the Menu button for 15 seconds will lock down them. This is the way in which I have dealt with it for so many years.
