    Nvidia GTS 450 Idle temperature

I recently bought a Sparkle GTs 450 1GB for make use of in my rig. I have put it through some benchmarking/stress testing, and it appears to load at 64C and idle at 49C all over the place else I have looked; it appears as though the idle should be in mid of the 30's. The ambient temperature is concerning 23C - a few ideas on why the high idle but regular load temperature? Thanks in advance.

Re: Nvidia GTS 450 Idle temperature

I have seen articles with idle temperatures as low as like 32c, and as high as 52c. The difficulty is some cards make use of the reference cooler, some do not, some scores from the similar manufacturer cards but from dissimilar sites are totally different, and some cards have dissimilar tolerances to voltage than others. On the other hand, the average temperature for reference cooler designed cards usually sits around 35C - 40C.

A few other things I want to tell you over here which you have to consider would be overall case temperatures, case location if making use of Windows Vista windows 7 is Aero Peek or any 3D desktop functions allows, and check to observe if there are some background programs running that strength be accessing the card. What the majority reviews do not say is what pace the fan was running, was the case open, what applications were running, where was the case sitting (desktop, floor, in the corner where?), and so forth, so I would take any temperature scores you see as "relative".
If you desire a more accurate idle temp do 2 things:
    1. Switch to Windows 7 Basic theme as this will turn off all the imagine desktop graphics, and
    2. Turn off all background application you do not require.

Re: Nvidia GTS 450 Idle temperature

Whatever these people are saying I agree with that but here the last thing which I want to say is, no matter how lots of of these cards I sell from the 460 to the 480s, each single time I stay seeing dissimilar applications of thermal paste on the cooler. Through my GTX470 SC the thermal paste was way too thick, and not any of it was in the gaps between the aluminum block and the heat pipes. On one more cards there was very small, while one more card had the cheapest white or pink crap on it. This was also be a factor along with your card, but except you are willing to substitute the thermal paste I wouldn't try taking the cooler off.

I have seen all the post over here and regarding to that I want to say that you do not worry about this. Actually your temperatures appears fine to me. So you just check your ventilation in that case. See this link concerning the temperatures of Sparkle GTX 460 768 MB, temperatures are similar. So for that you search the SPARKLE GeForce GTX 460 768MB review I hope you will got the solution for your query.

Here I think that you have to close up chrome and leave the system correctly idle at the desktop. AV is ok, as is Aero. But there should not be some other noteworthy applications open other than GPUz. If it still does not drop down to 50/100 is then either your driver is not relating with the power saving properly or Sparkle have not turned on power saving in the bios.

Re: Nvidia GTS 450 Idle temperature

    Hi abhi47,

Does the temperature of your pc rises only while gaming or also by doing some graphic works or some other works. If it is only rising while gaming then you need not to worry too much. You will need to apply thermal paste on your processor and can also use a cooler to cool down your pc. But first try to clean all the dust from your pc and then check by playing games again and check temp again. If it rises then you will need the things mentioned above, but if it doesnt then you dont need to worry, but in future you will need coolers and heat sink I suppose.
