    FIX Your 5850 OC edition

I have a great respect and faith in Gigabyte. They have there name in the list of making good cards with superb cooler. Though they are good but they do have problems that later becomes hell to use. Like I have something to ask about, in 5850, at idle why is the fan at 55%. I have tried hard to lower it but it does not. Also, why there is not voltage control? The 5850 are called overclock edition, but it can not be locked to a higher level with this locked voltage. Has anyone any thing regarding this????

Well, I have many high-end cards, and they all have fan profiles which prevents turning the fans off accidentally or purposely. My ASUS card's fan is at 40%. I think that lot of us are very fond of cards. We want to play with each and every parameter of it. With my past experience that I have seen millions of cards were returned because there fans were turned off or the voltage applied was so high that it just could not bare it. Hence when the fan is locked its for the good of the card. I hope that you got my point.

Well I completely agree with what is said above. We as a human want to do everything that can not be even achieved. Radeon HD 5850 is really great and play with the overclocking of it with your own risk. Thanks.

Re: FIX Your 5850 OC edition

I am having a Sapphire Radeon 5850. I decided to overclock it since it had a very good cooler. I found 850/1150 to be the best spot where it was rock solid. For overclocking I used the catalyst 10.4s. While playing Crysis it never got me troubled. Now I tried to use catalyst 10.7s, it was also doing well until I played Crysis. Now what should I do , I do not have any clue right know. My system was well stable and now it is unstable. Is this because of the driver that caused my stable overclock to become unstable? Please help.

See you have just mentioned that your system was very much OK when the Catalyst was 10.4s and know when you switched to 10.7s it started to give you trouble. The case is very much clear if I were in your place I would have switched back to the 10.4s. Do it. Also when you are taking the trouble of doing that please take some effort and also do clean all the dust from your card. Try doing this and post soon.

Thanks for your quick response. I will for sure clean the card but tomorrow. I will try with 10.5s, for some reason I am not getting the precious version 10.4s. It was OK though previously. I also wanted to ask can my hardware lose the overclocking potential over time. I use to overclock the system only to play Crysis, for all other game it was fine without the aid of Overclocking. Thanks.

As you have said,I think that a stable overclock can become unstable because of the drivers. Do not be surprised, it can do and that also in a very short time. This usually occurs because of the OverClocking that can harmful to the card.

Do not make the things complicated just turn back to the 10.4s. If something has come up because of something new, the first thing that you need to do is get yourself back to the last point. So, rollback to the most stable driver in your case i.e. 10.4s. Even I am having the 10.4s and I have no complaint with it.

Re: FIX Your 5850 OC edition

I tried following your advice. I disassembled the case. I cleaned each and every component and reassembled it . The problem still persists and stands solid where it was. I was very happy with the 10.4s, so, I uninstalled the current version and rolled back to the 10.4s. This step but this time proved to me as a beamer this time. Even this did not solve the problem. Now I am wondering whether the overclocking potential still persists with the card. Please suggest. Thanks.
