My desktop computer is on for a very long time and I play all the high end graphics game on it. Therefore I want to know what are the Official 8800GT Max Safe Temperature as I dont want the graphic card to develop any faults due to overheating. Any help about this topic is more than welcome. All the new day cards which are available today have thermal shutdown feature which helps in protecting the graphic card against overheating. Hence you will not have to worry about the graphic card getting faulty due to overheating. The system will prompt you when the threshold temperature is crossed which will help you in monitoring the performance of the graphic card.

Nvidia graphic cards have a thermal shutdown limit set to 125 degree celcius which can be considered as official maximum safe temperature to operate the Nvidia graphic card. But it is not advisable to run the graphic card at 125 degrees constantly as it will lower the life of the graphic card. Operating the graphic card at lower temperatures will be advisable.

There are many applications available which help in monitoring the operating temperatures of the graphic card. You can search and download any of such application which helps in monitoring the temperatures of all the devices which are running. You can also set threshold temperatures for different devices which help you in keeping the temperature of the graphic card low.

The temperature of the graphic card below 90C is nominal working temperature. If the temperature rises above 90C then check the airflow of the system, HS mounting or get RMA. It is still safe to run the graphic card above 110C but not recommended. If the temperature reaches 125-130C then the card shuts down automatically.

I was also facing the overheating issue with the graphic card installed on the computer and hence I bought an Aftermarket graphic card cooler. After installing the extra cooling system on the computer, the temperature of the graphic card is within low ranges even when the graphic card is fully loaded. Hence I would suggest that you use any aftermarket cooling system for the graphic card and check the performance.

Before adding any after market cooling systems to the computer, first check the wattage of the power supply unit of the computer. If the power supply unit is not able to support the after market cooling system then the computer will not boot due to power shortage. You can replace the Power supply unit along with the after market cooling systems which will ensure compatibility between the PSU and the cooling system.
